Best time for Langtang Valley Trek

Spring (March-May):

An ideal or best time for the Langtang Valley Trek is Spring. It offers stable weather with warm temperatures. Witness clear skies, panoramic vistas, scenic landscapes, and blossoming rhododendrons throughout the trekking trails.

Autumn (September-November):

The second best season is Autumn which offers fresh, clear weather with mild temperatures. The trekking trail is comfortable to walk, with abundant availability of accommodations.

Summer (June -August):

Experience monsoon during the summer season in Nepal. The beauty it offers during the trek is phenomenal but unstable temperatures and continuous rainfall make it a bit challenging.  Always carry a rain poncho or rain jacket if you plan to trek and make a better plan for a comfortable trekking.

Winter (December-February):

Winter is not considered best as it is the coldest season. Also, the weather and temperature during the trek are demanding for trekkers to adapt. The heavy snow, less availability of accommodation, and high elevations are challenging. Still, this trek is possible and attempted by daring adventurers.

Note: We organize this trek throughout the year.

I have just completed the Langtang Valley trek with Umesh as my guide. This is my second time using Himalaya Trip and they delivered a fantastic Nepal experience once again. Harka was a pleasure to deal with and makes all my trip arrangement’s stress free. Both trips Harka has provided me with 5star guides. My first trip in 2024 was with Surpa and for my recent Langtang trip was with Umesh. Both guides have been exceptional at making my Himalayan experiences an absolute pleasure. Thank You.

We had the most wonderful time with Jay, Home and Bisal on Langtang Gosaikunda trek. We felt safe at every moment, with our trek expertly guided by Jay. This allowed us to enjoy both the breathtaking scenery, as well as the company of our fellow travellers. We could not recommend Himalaya Trip more highly: from Harka meeting us at the airport, to our final (in some cases, tearful) farewells at the end of the trek, everything was just brilliant.

Our Langtang trek wouldn’t have been the same without our incredible guides and porters. From day one, Jay, Santoshi, Sandeep along with a team of porters were professional, kind, and deeply knowledgeable about the terrain, local culture, and safety. They paced the hike perfectly for our group, checked in on how we were feeling every day, and handled all logistics so we could focus on enjoying the journey. I’m so grateful for their care and companionship. If you’re considering a trek in the Himalayas, I highly recommend going with this team. Their service is top-notch, and their presence makes the experience truly meaningful.

This was my third trek with Himalaya Trip and as always it was a great experience. I was efficiently met at the airport by my guide, Ramesh, and then fully briefed at the hotel by Harka Gurung before having an acclimatisation day prior to setting off. A day on the road there and back to the start point is not too onerous as it is interesting to see varying local sights and agricultural methods. The trek itself in November was an excellent time of year as the weather, whilst quite cold at night, was clear and fine offering fantastic views and a walking programme which was well within my capabilities as a not so young trekker. My guide, Ramesh, was superb and looked after me very attentively and always found excellent accommodation. And my porter, Sandeep, carried my kit uncomplainingly and always with a smile on his face. The views from Kyanjin Ri are particularly spectacular and Ramesh ensured I made it to the top even though I was a bit puffy in the thinner air. I fully recommend this trek and Himalaya Trip as the Company charge fair prices for a a very efficient and friendly service. It was another unforgettable experience and my thanks to all the team for giving me a great time, I will come again! ” UK, November 16, 2023

This was my first trek in Nepal ( with my girlfriend ) and it was amazing. Communicating with Harka was easy, helpfull and quick. At first, it was a bit nerve-wracking if everything was going to go well, if the altitude wasn’t going to hit me, if my fitness level was moderate enough – but to say the least, all went great. There were a few parts during the hike that were quite intense but our guide Ramesh supported us throughout. Ramesh was so kind and helpful, if there were wild animals ( monkeys, mountain goats and more ) he was the first to spot them and make sure the whole trip was a blast! I would like to thank Himalaya Trip and Ramesh for this awesome trek and definitely till next time! Netherlands, 27 Feb 2024

Last week we went on the Langtang Valley Trek. The trip was well organised, from initial email contact and meeting with director Harka to discuss our schedule, to meeting our guide Ramesh and starting the trip. Himalaya Trip was flexible with our needs and we were able to book this trek last minute, which was great for us. In total the trip lasted a week, this included two days of travelling from and to Kathmandu to Syabru Bensi, and five days of walking. During the trek, we adjusted the program a bit to suit our needs and abilities. The trek itself was beautiful; it was also physically challenging but truly thanks to Ramesh, we made our goal to get to Kyjanin Gompa and even Kyanjin Ri! Ramesh took good care of us, he was fun to have around and he told us interesting things about the places we visited and about the history of Nepal. Overall, we really had a good time and I hope we can do another trek in the future! Netherlands, 27th Feb 2024

Preparation and fitness

Langtang Valley trek is a medium-level trek that consists of a maximum elevation gain of up to 4700 m or 4985 m. The trail has several ascends and descends where trekkers are required to walk 5-6 hours daily. There is also a possibility of getting altitude sickness. Thus, enduring preparation and fitness are key factors for this trek. It is recommended to take physical exercises, go for short hikes, and perform essential medical check-ups before embarking on this Langtang Valley Trek.

Accommodation and Internet facilities

Lodges or locally operated teahouses are the means of accommodation during the Langtang Valley Trek.  Basic but comfortable teahouses look simple. They provide beds, mattresses, quilts, pillows, and a sleeping bag (on rent or request). A dining hall consists of a fire log setting to keep warm during winters or cold climates. Internet facilities are stable in the lower regions and unstable in the higher regions. It costs extra to use the Wi-Fi, laundry, hot water, shower, and charging electronics.

Foods During the trek

Basic but healthy and hygienic foods are served from the kitchen. There are choices like Tibetan, and Nepalese cuisine, and some continental options. Dal-Bhat is the prime dish and is mostly preferred by trekkers as it gives good energy throughout the trek. Since this region is influenced by Tibetan Buddhism, meat options are rare. So, trekkers must adjust to it. If there is any special dietary plan requirement, inform us earlier.

Drinking water During the Langtang Trek

Bottled water, tap water, or boiled water paying an additional charge are drinking water options during the Langtang Valley trek. For safe drinking, always carry a water bottle and water-purifying solutions.

Mode of transportation

Roadways are the best mode of transportation option for the Langtang Valley Trek. Take a tourist bus or Private Jeep (optional) ride that best fits. Adore the bus ride enjoying scenic landscapes and traverse several attractive villages. The bus ride ends at Syabrubesi and begins the trek to Langtang Valley.

How hard is the Langtang Valley trek?

Langtang Valley trek is a moderate-level trek as well as one of the popular short treks. It can be completed within 7 days. The trekking trail consists of several ups and downs, and long hours of walking in the vicinity of Langtang National Park. The maximum elevation is expected to be 4700 m (Kyanjin Ri) or 4985 m (Tsergo Ri). It is strenuous but less compared to that of popular Everest or off-beat Manaslu Circuit Treks. However, the chances of getting Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) are there. It is best advised to take proper acclimatization rest and follow the guidelines strictly. It is doable with proper planning and preparation.

I am Ramesh Gurung from Chitwan. After teaching for several years in primary school. I have switched my work to a trekking guide. At first, I started my work as a trekking porter to know the trekking trail and mountain names. After working few years, I took trekking guide training. I am a government-certified trekking guide. I have been working on the Himalaya Trip. I am a specialized trekking guide of the most popular destinations like Everest, Annapurna, Langtang, and Manaslu region. I can communicate in English. I have a lot of experience in the Himalayas. As well as the stunning scenery trekkers often find it interesting to hear bits and pieces about local culture, religions, norms, caste history, and environmental issues. This helps the trekker appreciate the different world they have stepped into.
