Despite its modest size, Muktinath Temple houses a golden statue of Vishnu as Shri Mukti Narayana, alongside bronze depictions of Bhoodevi, Saraswati, Janaki (Sita), Garuda, Lava-Kusa, and the Sapta Rishis. Buddhist nuns conduct worship in the presence of an aged Buddhist monk, reflecting the temple's unique fusion of Hindu and Buddhist traditions.

Kathmandu – Besishahar by public bus, Besishar – Dharapani by public Jeep.
1860m, Dharapani 221 km or 9 -10 hours B,L,D Lodge
On the first day of our trek, we set out towards Besisahar, the administrative center of Lamjung district, which serves as the gateway to Manang district to the north. Our transportation mode is a tourist bus, and our journey begins by leaving the Kathmandu valley through Nagdhunga. Following the Trishuli River via the Prithvi Highway, we cover a distance of 130 kilometers until we reach Dumre in the Tanahun district. At Dumre, the road splits, with one route leading north towards Lamjung district. After traveling 40 kilometers along this route, we arrive at Besisahar, a suburban town situated beside the Marsyangdi River. Here, the smooth, paved road transitions into mountainous terrain. Our journey ahead will continue alongside the Marsyangdi River, which originates from the Annapurna ranges. We will have a thrilling jeep ride in the mountainous road from Besisahar onwards headed to Dharapani, our overnight stopover.
Dharapani – Chame
2670m, Chame 15 km or 5-6 hours walk B,L,D Lodge
After leaving Dharapani, the trail transforms into a rugged dirt path carved along the steep rocky cliffs of the Manang region. Most of today's journey will be spent navigating alongside the Marsyangdi River. Chame, the district headquarters of Manang district, is our destination, reachable by 5-6 hours walk. The initial part of the trek showcases rural Nepalese villages, with scenes of paddy fields, terraced farms, small settlements, and dense forests dominating the landscape for the first three hours. Approaching Chame, the terrain and scenery change noticeably. The once muddy trail transitions into a rocky path strewn with boulders, offering a unique Himalayan roadway experience. You will traverse through small Manangi villages like Bagarchhap, Timang, Thanchok and Chamje before reaching Chame in the evening for night stay.
Chame – Upper Pisang
3200m, Upper Pisang 13.7 km or 5-6 hours walk B,L,D Lodge
As you set out from Chame towards the picturesque valley of Manang, an awe-inspiring landscape unfolds before you. The initial segment of the trail leads you along narrow, winding pathways beside the river, necessitating multiple crossings of the turbulent Marsyangdhi River. About an hour from Chame, you'll encounter the charming village of Bhratang, famous for its vast apple orchards. The juicy apples grown here not only play a significant role in Manang's economy but also offer a delightful treat for trekkers. Continuing through riverside hamlets, the scenery opens up to reveal a broader valley as you reach Dhukure Pokhari. Surrounding you from every angle are the majestic Himalayan mountains, adorned with glistening peaks. Finally, our day's journey concludes in the riverside village of Upper Pisang, where we'll spend the night.
Upper Pisang – Ghyaru – Ngawal – Manang
3540m, Manang 20 km or 7-8 hours walk B,L,D Lodge
As you depart from Pisang in the morning, you'll be greeted by the majestic presence of Chulu Eat , Gangapurna (7454m), Annapurna II (7939m), Annapurna III and numerous other towering mountains. Perched just above Pisang village is Pisang Peak (6091m), a renowned climbing peak in Nepal. Our route from Pisang will take us around the base of Pisang Peak, leading us through the river basin where we'll come across Mring Tso lake. After approximately 2 hours of trekking, we'll arrive at Ghyaru, a small hamlet nestled beside the Marsyangdi river. This village sits on a sloped landmass, its ethnic houses constructed from mud and wood. Continuing along the trail, we'll reach Ngawal, which serves as a crossroads for the Kangla Pass (5320m) from the Nar Phu valley and Manang village. Moving westward, we'll follow the river bank trail, passing through several pasturelands and semi-arid landscapes. The trail then diverges from the road path at Braka village, with Manang village just an hour further. Manang serves as the commercial hub of the district, with typical Manangi homes characterized by mud-built structures stacked atop one another. You'll enjoy a wonderful ambiance as you spend the night in Manang.
Rest day in Manang
3540m, Manang B,L,D Lodge
Manang village, home to the Manangi people who adhere to Tibetan Buddhism, is a remarkable settlement that seamlessly blends traditional charm with modern conveniences in a picturesque valley nestled beneath the Himalayas. This day is designated for acclimatization, allowing you the opportunity to partake in various activities within Manang village.
In close proximity lies Gangapurna Lake, with its pristine turquoise waters providing a serene setting. Additionally, a hike to the renowned Cave of 100 Monks awaits, offering blessings from the holy monks for a successful journey. Nearby Brabal village is home to several Buddhist monasteries where participation in prayer ceremonies is encouraged. Alternatively, you may opt for a hike to Ice Lake, Milarepa Cave, or Khangsar village. We recommend consulting your guide for the best alternative.
Manang – Tilicho Base Camp
4150m, Tilicho Base Camp 14km or 6-7 hours walk B,L,D Lodge
Today's trek marks our first ascent to an elevation above 4000 meters. Departing from the dry landscape of Manang village, we head westward along the trail. After about an hour, we arrive at the confluence of two rivers: the Thorung Khola, originating from Thorang Peak, and the Marsyangdhi River, originating from Tilicho Lake. Continuing on, the trail ascends steeply through barren terrain with sandy pathways, leading us to Khangsar where we'll stop for lunch and prepare for the next leg of our journey. Khangsar is home to the millennia-old Tasab Gompa monastery.
From Khangsar, we embark on a gradual climb to reach Shree Kharka. The trek from Shree Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp is challenging, traversing through the barren terrain of Pusen Danda. We navigate switchback ascents along sandy paths dotted with small rocky pathways. The initial stretch of the trek involves a steep ascent to the Top of the Col at 4970 meters, followed by a gradual descent towards Tilicho Base Camp. There is only one teahouse available at Tilicho Base Camp to accommodate trekkers, where we'll settle down for the night.
Visit Tilicho Lake and back to Shri Kharka
4080m, Shri Kharka 17 km or 7-8 hours walk B,L,D Lodge
Tilicho Lake is often referred to as the highest lake in the world, particularly in Nepal. However, defining what constitutes a lake versus a pond presents a challenge, as there is considerable uncertainty and no universally accepted definition for either term. While there are bodies of water at higher elevations than Tilicho (which sits at an altitude of 4920 meters), they are typically much smaller in size, often no more than a few hundred meters. Therefore, it could be said that Tilicho Lake is the highest lake in the world for its size, as the higher expanses of water are significantly smaller in comparison. After visiting this pristine lake, you will retrace the trail back to Shri Kharka to spend the night.
Shri Kharka – Churi Lattar
4200m, Churi Lattar 12 km or 6-7 hours walk B,L,D Lodge
Following breakfast, our trek leads us towards Churi Lattar, a small mountain village renowned primarily as an acclimatization stop. Situated at an elevation of approximately 4200 meters, the weather conditions in Chauri Ledar are unpredictable.. With no tree lines in sight, the landscape is dominated by expansive pasture grasslands. Additionally, if fortunate, trekkers may catch a glimpse of the Himalayan Blue Sheep during this section of the journey. The surrounding scenery offers breathtaking alpine views, rugged terrain, and panoramic vistas of neighboring peaks. After trekking for approximately 6 - 7 hours with mostly uphill terrain, we arrive at Churi Lattar. From here, views of Thorung La Phedi and Thorung Peak are visible. We will spend the night at Churi Lattar.
Churi Lattar – Thorung High Camp
4925m, Thorung High Camp 6.2 km or 4 hours walk B,L,D Lodge
As you continue your ascent from Chauri Lader, you'll surpass the 4000-meter elevation mark. It's crucial to proceed with caution, maintaining a slow and steady pace. The terrain beyond Churi Lattar is characterized by barren, dry, and semi-arid conditions, presenting significant risks such as landslides and altitude sickness. It's essential to heed the advice of your guide and take necessary precautions. Today's journey leads you through numerous dry landslides scattered across the landscape. The Manang region experiences minimal rainfall, even during the monsoon season, resulting in predominantly dry conditions. Occasionally, strong storm winds further heighten the risk of landslides in various parts of the area. Following the trail alongside the Kona River, we'll reach Thorung Phedi and high camp in the evening, where we'll spend the night. From Thorung High Camp, you'll be treated to mesmerizing vistas of Purbung Himal (6500m), Mt. JinJang (6111m), Mt. Chulu West (6584m), and other stunning mountain peaks.
Thorong High Camp – Thorong La Pass - Muktinath
5416m, Thorong La Pass 13 km or 7-8 hours walk B,L,D Lodge
Today, we'll encounter the most challenging section of our trek as we depart from Thorang Phedi. Beginning cautiously due to the high elevation, we navigate through a steep and landslide-prone zone. Progressing steadily, we eventually reach Thorung La Pass, renowned as the highest pass in the world. This vibrant area is adorned with colorful Buddhist prayer flags fluttering in the wind.
Descending from Thorung La Pass, the trail winds its way towards Muktinath, traversing rocky terrain along the base of Thorung Peak. After approximately 3 hours of descent, we arrive at Muktinath, where we'll spend the night.
Muktinath – Pokhara by public bus
830m, Pokhara 175 km or 7-8 hours walk drive B,L Hotel
Muktinath is a sacred site nestled amidst dry and rocky hills, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists for its spiritual significance and supernatural aura. From Muktinath Bazaar, we begin our journey towards Pokhara by boarding a vehicle. Our vehicle first descends steeply to reach Kagbeni village, situated alongside the Kaligandaki river. Continuing westward towards Jomsom, we predominantly follow the riverbank for the majority of the return journey. Traversing through the flat plains of Jomsom, Marpha, Lete, and Kalopani, we eventually make a steep descent into Myagdi district. Despite a few rough stretches, the ride on the paved road is comfortable.During this journey, we encounter Dana gorge, known as the deepest gorge in the world, nestled between the towering mountains of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. Arriving in Pokhara in the evening, we conclude our trekking adventure.
Note: Private Jeep or flight from Jomsom to Pokhara options are available with extra cost.
