The thrill of being in such close proximity to these magnificent creatures is truly awe-inspiring. You can even do an Elephant safari instead of Jeep safari if you like.

Canoe Ride

Take a peaceful canoe ride along the Rapti River and immerse yourself in the serene beauty of Chitwan National Park. As you glide through the calm waters, keep your eyes peeled for the gharial crocodile and gangetic dolphin, which are native to the region. The canoe ride also offers a unique perspective of the park’s lush vegetation and provides an excellent opportunity for birdwatching.

Nature Walk

Venture on a nature walk accompanied by an experienced guide who will help you explore the diverse flora and fauna of Chitwan National Park. As you stroll through the park's trails, you'll encounter a variety of plant species, including towering trees, colorful flowers, and medicinal herbs. Your guide will also point out wildlife sightings along the way, such as monkeys swinging through the branches or deer grazing in the grasslands.

Elephant Bathing

Get up close and personal with these gentle giants during an elephant bathing experience. Join the mahouts, or elephant caretakers, as they lead the elephants to the Rapti River for a refreshing dip. You'll have the opportunity to scrub and bathe the elephants, forming a unique bond with these magnificent creatures. It's a truly unforgettable experience that allows you to appreciate the intelligence and grace of elephants.

Bird Watching

Chitwan National Park is a paradise for bird lovers, with its diverse range of avian species. Grab your binoculars and join a knowledgeable birdwatching guide as you explore the park's different habitats, including wetlands, grasslands, and forests. Keep an eye out for rare and colorful birds, such as the Bengal florican, great pied hornbill, and various species of kingfishers, eagles, and herons. The park's tranquil setting provides the perfect backdrop for observing and photographing these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.

Elephant breeding center

Located in the northern outskirts of Sauraha is the famous Elephant Breeding Centre. This breeding center was established back in 1988. Initially they had 6 male and 12 female elephants altogether. This breeding center was aimed at increasing the diminishing number of elephants in the area. When the breeding center was established, an elephant was generously gifted from various countries including India, Myanmar, and Thailand. Nowadays, the Elephant Breeding Center situated in Khorshor has become a favorite among visitors, particularly for student tours. It stands out as a must-visit attraction in Sauraha, Chitwan, making it an ideal spot for families and friends to explore together.

Tharu village tour

Badrahani Village, close to Sauraha and on the edge of Chitwan National Park, is like a slow-motion living museum depicting the distinct culture of Tharu people. The houses there are made of mud and clay, painted in a warm ochre color, and topped with thatched roofs. These houses are simple, mostly having just one room with no windows or chimneys, showing that people there are open and welcoming. Life in the village happens mostly outdoors. You can see an old sewing machine on a porch, pots hanging over an open fire, and goats wandering around freely. The barking dog is there to let everyone know who's in charge.

The Tharu people of Badrahani have been living off hunting, fishing, gathering, and farming for a long time. They've learned the skills needed to survive in their tough environment. These villagers also have a great understanding of wild plants that can be used as medicine. They still use this knowledge to cure different illnesses today. The Tharu village tour during your journey to Chitwan is a mesmerizing experience which lets you immerse in typical Tharu culture. Another interesting activity that Tharus performs is the typical Tharu dance, especially the fire dance.

Rapti River Sunset

At the conclusion of the main road in Sauraha, you'll find the tranquil Rapti River. This calm and broad river is bordered by a dense jungle on one side and a lineup of hotels with tables and chairs on the other. The concept is simple: take a seat, relax, and relish the sunset over the river, with the jungle providing a picturesque backdrop. Imagine relaxing on a reclined wooden chair stationed at a river beach with red sun setting in the distant jungle. The quaint ambiance of Rapti river basin makes this sunset worthwhile before it gets all too dark in Chitwan.

Best Time to Visit Chitwan National Park

The best time to visit Chitwan National Park is during the dry seasons of October to February and April to June. During these months, the weather is pleasant, and wildlife sightings are more frequent. The park's dense vegetation is less obstructive during the dry seasons, making it easier to spot animals in their natural habitat. However, each season offers a unique experience, and the park's beauty can be appreciated year-round.

Accommodations in Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park offers a range of accommodations to suit every traveler's needs and preferences. From luxury lodges to budget-friendly guesthouses, there is something for everyone. Some lodges even offer the opportunity to stay in traditional Tharu-style huts, providing an authentic cultural experience. Whichever accommodation you choose, you'll be surrounded by the park's natural beauty and have easy access to its wildlife and activities.

How to Get to Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is easily accessible from major cities in Nepal. The closest airport is Bharatpur Airport, which has regular flights from Kathmandu. From Bharatpur, it is a short drive to the park's entrance. Alternatively, you can take a scenic drive from Kathmandu or Pokhara to reach the park. Several tour operators and travel agencies also offer organized tours to Chitwan National Park, taking care of all transportation arrangements.

Chitwan National Park Permit Fees and Others

As of now, the Chitwan National Park permit costs 2000 rupees for foreigners, 1000 rupees for SAARC nationals, and 150 rupees for Nepali citizens. It's important to note that a Chitwan National Park ticket is valid for a single day.
