Overview

Poon Hill, ABC, and Mardi Himal trek combine three of the most popular pathways of the western Himalayan range into a single route. The trek takes you into the Annapurna mountains, passing through tiny Gurung and Magar towns. Annapurna Base Camp, Poonhill, and Mardi Himal are among the most incredible treks in the Annapurna region, with some breathtaking vistas.

You start with Poon Hill, famous for its stunning sunrise views over the Himalayas. Next, you trek to Annapurna Base Camp, where you stand at the foot of one of the world’s highest peaks, surrounded by incredible mountain scenery. Finally, you explore the quiet Mardi Himal trail, which offers peaceful paths and beautiful views. This trek perfectly blends gorgeous landscapes, from forests and villages to high mountains, making it a great way to experience the natural beauty of Nepal.

Poon Hill ABC Mardi Himal Trek Details

Accommodation and Food During ABC via Ponnhill with Mardi Trek

During the Poon Hill – ABC – Mardi Himal trek, you will travel through beautiful Gurung villages. Along the way, you can find many teahouses. The Gurung and Magar people handle these traditional lodges, which provide minimal services to trekkers. Twin beds, foam cushions, pillows, and blankets are often seen in the rooms. While most teahouses have individual restrooms, some at higher elevations may have shared facilities.

To keep warm, teahouses utilize a Bukhara stove, a cylindrical iron structure with a chimney duct that burns wood. The furnace is usually found in the dining room, where you can gather to enjoy the warmth of the fire. A power supply, internet, and cellphone service are available throughout the trek, but they are unstable due to repeated distortions.

The Annapurna region borders Tibet to the north, and Tibetan culture has had a significant impact on the food habits of the local Sherpa people. While every tea house serves the typical Nepali Dal Bhat (rice and lentils), other options include noodles, vegetables, french fries, soup, pie, and pasta.

Best Time for the Trek Mardi, Poonhill with Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The best time for the Poon Hill ABC Mardi Himal Trek is spring and autumn. The spring season (March-May) is Nepal’s second busiest time of year for trekking. The days are long, and the daytime temperature ranges from mild to hot, with only rare rains. The trails leading up to the first line are bright with colorful rhododendrons and flowers.

Autumn is the best time to trek in Nepal. Autumn starts from September to November. These months offer pleasant daytime temperatures, high visibility, and long periods of favorable weather. It is the finest season to appreciate the breathtaking Himalayan vistas; thus, the trails are the busiest.

Since we didn't have any friends around us who had trekked in the Himalayas, the only information we could find was on the internet. Among several local agencies, we decided to undertake the 11-day long journey with Himalaya Trip Agency, which was the most responsive and created a customized trekking itinerary according to our wishes. I was worried because it was a two-woman trip, but thanks to the attentive consideration of Harka, the Himalaya Trip team leader, Surpa, an experienced guide, and Meshak, a porter who carried our luggage all the way to the top of the ABC with only Crocs sandals, we were able to focus fully on our schedule and enjoy trekking. It was surprising that guide Surpa's weather forecasts and predictions about the expected arrival time were always correct. The lodges were cleaner than expected and the food was good. Potato dishes were especially delicious, so for the first few days, we only ate various potato dishes. I still vividly remember the morning I had at Poon Hill, the first summit on my itinerary, and the scent of the warm coffee I drank there. On the way up from MBC to ABC, I was out of breath and my legs were heavy, so I had no choice but to walk slowly, one step at a time, but my Surpa guide was right next to me, matching my strides until the end and giving me courage, so I was able to keep going without giving up. We would like to thank guide Surpa and Meshak porter once again for always being considerate and helping us during our 11-day itinerary. Although there are people who have never been to the Himalayas, there is no one who has been there just once... I am already thinking about plans for my next travel destination, and I hope to be able to work with a Himalaya Trip agency again next time. Korea - Republic Of, 2024

Incredible!

Hi! Im Sara, from Spain!
Good morning!
Yesterday we arrived from our 11-day trekking in Gokyo.
There were 3 people from Spain, and I don’t know how to express how happy I felt.
From the beginning, Himalaya Trip has been attentive to us, with a welcome at the hotel and explanation of the route, rental of necessary equipment, etc.
The most important thing for us has been the ease and comfort with which Ramesh (our precious guide) has taken care of us at all time.
Attentive to the food, to make sure we didn’t get cold, adapting the route day by day according to the needs of the team.

I only have words of gratitude for Ramesh, who I would recommend for any trekking in the world.
In addition to being a great guide and knowing all the mountains of Nepal perfectly, he is a great person, with a big heart.

We hope to repeat in the not too distant future and hopefully it can be with him, since he is already part of our family.
Thank you for everything, from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks!!!!

Mardi Himal: fantastic trek & wonderful guide

I had an amazing time trekking with Surpa, particularly as this was my first solo trek. Beautiful views doing the Mardi Himal trek over 4 days, Surpa was a great guide who organised everything so well for me, kept me well fed, supported a good pace the whole way and always cheerful. Would recommend, and I would happily have him as my guide again in the future. The organisation and booking with Himalaya Trip was great, really responsive on emails and Harka was so helpful in organising everything and meeting me in Kathmandu for a briefing before the trip. Thanks so much!

Once in a lifetime experience in the Himalayas

Our 4 day Mardi Himal Trek with guide Milan and porter Plekta was a wonderful experience. The manager Harka Gurung met with us over coffee in Kathmandu and briefed us about expectations as this was our first trek. After that our guide met us at our hotel in Pokhara, helped us rent equipment, and handled all logistics in between. Our first time in the Himalayas was unforgettable between all the unbelievable landscapes and scenery, and we were lucky to have MIlan and Plekta with us to experience it all. I can’t begin to describe how ethereal sunrise is over the base camp, but hopefully you’ll be able to experience it soon!
