13 pax group for ABC trek with Harka
We arranged for a 13 pax group for the ABC trek with Harka. Even with a big group size, Harka and his team took good care of us. The itinerary was customized based on our needs and fitness level. Top-notch service was provided throughout our 10 days in Nepal. Our guide, Hari did an amazing job ensuring all of us were able to cope with the altitude and long trek well. During the trip, we requested some changes to the itinerary and they were able to accommodate our last-minute request. Would totally come back to them if we are planning for EBC and recommend it to those who wish to visit Nepal.

Unforgettable and its a real adventure
Haari, our tour guide, was great. He is very friendly, patient, accommodating with everyone and a mountain of knowledge about the Himalayas (very very enthusiastic about EBC, haha). He was well prepared with first aids and brought us to places to get gears and stuff that we missed out before our hike. He made plans ahead and keep us informed, totally made our ABC adventure so much more enjoyable and relaxed. The porters were super helpful and thoughtful, despite carrying our bags around the mountains they keep us entertained with their carefree personalities and great dancing skills 🙂 (yeah, they partied at one of the teahouse we stayed). OH did I mentioned, one of our member left his camera at the previous teahouse we stayed and only realised when we arrived at the next accommodation (after 12 hours) and one of the porter volunteered to return and pick up the camera for our member, and I’m sure he was sprinting and down 6 red bull and came back in 5hours. We were very lucky and blessed indeed. Haari’s brother, Harka is the operation/ owner of the tour agency and he was also very kind and did a fantastic job in ensuring our last few days in Kathmandu a pleasant one. We had good conversations with everyone of them and all in all a great experience and a wonderful times in this beautiful country.

our honeymoon trekking
My husband and I spent our honeymoon trekking to Annapurna Base Camp and Harka was our guide. We were so pleased to have Harka as he was the perfect guide for us. Naturally he has excellent knowledge and always gently guided us into the correct decision. We were quite worried about spending so much time with someone we didn’t know. But Harka had the magic ability to know when to leave us in peace and when to spend time with us. He was very gentlemanly, with perfect manners and as I said an innate ability to know what to do. He wasn’t too distant nor too friendly. We did see other guides who didn’t get this balance right and who if they had been with us would have affected our trip for the worse. Harka was just perfect for us and I would recommend him to anyone.

I and my girlfriend took a ABC Trek
In the march of 2012, my girlfriend and I took a trip to the Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal. We have hired a guide Harka Gurung , a local guide (26), who was recommended by my friends.First, he has sent us the list of things to take with us, this information is very valuable for us, since we know what to take with us. The weather conditions were pretty rough, but we did not freeze and need anything. Harka is very fond of safety, starting from the recommendations about the food and water and ending with advice was and how to pass the Avalanche area, steep slopes, and so on. He was very nice to us and told us a lot of stories about Nepali habits, culture, and history; he was always joking and did not show any signs of angriness when we were going to slow or wanted to have rest.
Harka went all the way with us and without him our travel would not have been so nice and safe.I definitely will choose home as a guide for my next trips to Nepal and recommend him to anyone who wants to feel comfortable and nice during the trek.

Highly recommended, friendly family-run company.
We booked a 7 day Annapurna Base Camp trek with Himalaya Trip in Sep. Communication when booking was excellent and they were very accommodating to fit in with our dates and pick up/drop off locations. The manager, Harka, was very quick to respond and provided good information about what to take. On arrival, Harka met us at our hotel in Kathmandu and explained the full plan for the trip giving us all our tickets and trekking passes. He also met us in the morning to ensure we got on the correct bus to Pokhara where we would meet our guide.
The guide and porter were very good: both were very friendly and couldn’t do enough to make sure we were comfortable and safe at all times. We were particularly impressed when we asked to change the plan for the last day of the trek and he gave us a few options and rebooked our accommodation and transport plan to fit. Even though the porter spoke little English he was friendly and helpful throughout.
Himalaya Trip clearly a local, family-run business and I would highly recommend booking directly with them as it was better value for money than going through an agent in the UK and also supports their local community. We will certainly use them again for future trekking adventures in Nepal.

ABC Made Memorable by Harka Gurung and Himalaya Trip !
Our little group of three were introduced to Himalaya Trip and its Founder, Harka Gurung, from another Malaysian who had trekked in Nepal in 2018.
For our trek to ABC, I found Harka and his guide, Om and his two porters, Buddhi Man and Samsher, all Gurungs from their home state, to be exceptionally professional, courteous, friendly and accommodating at all times.
We quickly warmed to the Gurungs’ easygoing nature and friendly, no-nonsense dispositions, made all the more memorable by Samsher and Buddhi Man’s mountain songs and spontaneous dancing whilst on the trail!
I cannot therefore recommend Harka, Om, Samsher and Buddhi Man more highly for your next trip to this beautiful land as Nepal Hidden Treks will definitely be my first port of call when I next visit, hopefully with my children.
The defining feature of Harka and his men are that this is a family business for the Gurung tribe which places employment, professional standards and career opportunities on equal if not higher measure than commercial profit, which ultimately benefits the lucky client.

Likewise, it falls in the post-monsoon season, which makes September a perfect time for the trek. The rain washes all the dirt and pollution from the vegetation and atmosphere. Thus, everything looks lush, vibrant, and fresh. There may be occasional rain showers, but the risk of landslides or mudslides is minimal. Similarly, the trail starts to become drier. The crisp atmosphere and luscious surroundings make the ABC Trek more enjoyable.
Golden autumn foliage is another reason to take the ABC Trek in September. As the month progresses, the lower regions of the Annapurna region gradually take on a red, brown, and orange hue. September is also harvest season, so you can see the terrace farms full of golden-green paddy. You can see farmers busy tending the fields, which offers a glimpse of the rural Nepalese lifestyle. To witness the stunning scenery and experience the cultural richness, September is a special time to take the Annapurna Base Camp Trek.
Benefits of trekking in September
Let us highlight the benefits of trekking to the Annapurna Base Camp in September:
Pleasant weather
As the September season begins in Nepal, the summer or monsoon season changes to autumn. The weather gradually becomes stable, and the rain gradually ceases. Similarly, the hot weather becomes cooler and drier. High wind at higher altitudes is also minimal. The days are bright and sunny, allowing trekkers to enjoy pleasant weather while trekking to the Annapurna Base Camp. Meanwhile, the nights are chillier. By late September, the rain completely stops, leaving the vegetation and landscapes lush and clean. The best and pleasant weather conditions are one of the benefits of the ABC Trek in September.
Clear skies & excellent views
Another benefit of trekking to ABC in September is the clear skies and excellent views. The rain from the monsoon leaves the entire hilly landscape clean, fresh, and luscious. It also cleanses the dust and pollution from the atmosphere, resulting in clear visibility. You can enjoy clear views of the snow-capped mountains and the lush vegetation. September is one of the best times to witness the views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Hiunchuli. The paddy fields are also filled with crops, ready for harvest.
Tranquil trail
In addition to the pleasant weather, there are very few trekkers on the trails. Compared to October and November, the trekking trails are less crowded. It is an ideal time for those who are looking for a quiet trekking experience. The first half of the month sees even fewer trekkers as it falls during the shoulder season. The vibrant greenery, paired with a tranquil atmosphere, is ideal for those seeking a rejuvenating experience. Similarly, the sound of nature, singing birds, and rushing rivers offer a natural form of therapy. September is one of the best times to immerse yourself in the serenity of the Himalayas.
Hassle-free stay
Trekking in Annapurna Base Camp during September is simpler and hassle-free. Since there are very few trekkers, it makes it easier for them to find flights and accommodations easily. Most teahouses and lodges are empty, so the services are also better. Trekkers can get better rooms and even better prices. It is also possible to find private rooms. You can have a leisurely chat with the locals and lodge owners, which further heightens the experience. For a hassle-free stay, trekkers should consider trekking in early September. As the season progresses, accommodations begin to fill up, and prices may also increase.
How Crowded is the Route in September?
The Annapurna Base Camp route is quieter in September compared to October and November. Especially in early September, there are very few trekkers on the trail. There is still slight rainfall in the lower, hilly regions and falls in the shoulder season. Hence, there are not many during early September. As the season advances, more and more trekkers crowd the ABC trail.
Trekkers looking to enjoy the trek in a quieter atmosphere should consider trekking during early September. From mid- to late September, the crowds start to gather as the peak trekking season begins in Nepal. The accommodations also start to become packed. To avoid the crowd, consider trekking early in the morning. Starting early also helps to prevent busy trails.
Overall, the Annapurna Base Camp route is moderately crowded in September. The weather is stable, the temperature is mild, and the peak trekking season begins from here onwards. September is one of the best times to trek and enjoy the lush greenery in a peaceful environment.
Cultural Highlights During Annapurna Base Camp
Annapurna Base Camp Trek is also a culturally rich experience. Hence, it is popular not only among adventurers but also among cultural explorers. The route of ABC passes by numerous traditional Gurung and Magar settlements with picturesque terrace farms. This provides a glimpse at the culture and lifestyles of the locals. Similarly, you will stay at locally run teahouses and lodges, which allow you to experience their hospitality and immerse yourself in their culture and customs.
Generally, the trek begins in Nayapul, but the exact starting point may vary depending on the itinerary. You will traverse notable Gurung and Magar villages like Ghandruk, Chhomrong, Dovan, Tadapani, and Jhinu Danda. You will see traditional stone houses and stone-paved pathways. The teahouses and lodges are also built the same way. You will also get to try local delicacies such as dhido, millet pancakes, gundruk (fermented leafy green vegetables), selroti, and more. There is also a cultural museum in Ghandruk where one can look and gain insight into local agricultural tools, Gurung heritage, and attire.
Aside from houses and lodges, you will also come across several small Buddhist shrines, temples, chortens, and prayer flags en route. Since September is a harvest season, the locals are mostly busy with harvest and tending their crops. It is also common to see villagers carrying a doko (a V-shaped basket woven with bamboo strips), supported by a namlo (head strap). They transport fodder, firewood, vegetables, grains, or other goods using the doko. You can greet them with simple Nepalese greetings like “Namaste.”
The cultural richness of the Annapurna region makes it one of the top destinations for those seeking an authentic cultural experience. It makes the Annapurna Base Camp Trek more rewarding and fulfilling. The journey offers adventure with cultural discovery so that trekkers can get the best of both worlds.
Weather Conditions You Can Expect in September
With the beginning of September, the weather conditions gradually become more stable. The monsoon typically lasts until the first half of the month, resulting in occasional rainfall. Hence, the ABC trail in early September can still be wet and muddy. The latter half of the month brings more stable and favorable weather and climatic conditions. Autumn colors also begin to appear from late September. Monsoon also exits the country, leaving the landscapes and vegetation fresh and vibrant.
As the summer season transitions into autumn with the arrival of September, the temperature also gradually becomes cooler. Unlike the hot and humid temperature of summer, September offers pleasant and comfortable trekking conditions. The visibility also improves as the month progresses. Similarly, the sky becomes clear and the air is crisp. Trekkers will enjoy spectacular views with little to no obstruction. The wind speed is also low at this time of the year.
While trekking to the Annapurna Base Camp in September, trekkers must carry rain jackets and rain gear. The temperature at night can get quite chilly, so they are also advised to bring warm clothes with them. However, the daytime temperature is warm, sunny, and bright. Challenges During the ABC Trek in September
Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp in September does come with some challenges. It is crucial to understand them so that trekkers can prepare themselves more adequately. Take a look at some of the challenges of trekking this month:
The weather at the beginning of the month is unpredictable, and it can rain at any time.
The rain in early September makes the trails wet, muddy, and slippery, especially in the lower regions. There is also the risk of minor landslides or trail blockage.
Trekking on steep trails on rough terrain becomes more demanding due to rain.
Visibility can be limited, and the views can be obstructed.
In lower forest trails, leeches can be a problem due to high humidity. It can make the trekking experience uncomfortable.
The days are usually warm, but the nights are cold in late September. Rooms in higher elevations often have poor insulation. To survive the chilly nights, trekkers are advised to carry a sleeping bag.
There is still the risk of altitude sickness during the ABC Trek in September. Rapid ascension to higher elevations above 3,000 meters can result in trekkers experiencing altitude-related sickness. Hence, proper precaution is necessary.
Tips for a successful trek in September
Although September is one of the most favorable times for trekking in the Annapurna Base Camp, trekkers must not underestimate the challenges and make adequate preparation. Here are some tips for completing the trek successfully in this beautiful month:
Early September offers quieter trails, but it still rains in lower, hilly regions. Hence, trekkers must prepare for wet and slippery conditions on the trails.
Trekkers must carry rain coats, gear, and good, waterproof trekking boots.
Prepare both physically and mentally for the journey. Start training 8 to 12 weeks before the trek and research the challenges of the ABC Trek in September.
Hire a licensed and experienced guide to help you navigate the trails and for support. Additionally, consider hiring a porter to assist you with carrying your luggage, thereby relieving you of the physical burden.
It is very crucial for trekkers to stay well-hydrated. Drink plenty of water (3 to 4 liters) each day to avoid dehydration.
Altitude sickness is not something to be taken lightly. All trekkers must be aware of the symptoms and take proper precautions to ensure their safety.
As the month advances, the trail will start to become busier. So, book your flights and accommodations in advance.
Conclusion
Annapurna Base Camp Trek in September is one of the best times to explore the iconic trek destination of Nepal. The comfortable climate and mild temperature are also perfect for trekking.
