Annapurna Circuit Trek and Manaslu Circuit Trek require compulsory permits to trek, and the necessary permits with their costs are as follows:
Annapurna Circuit Trek Permit
To trek the Annapurna circuit, you need two types of permits: Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS card)
ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project)
he ACAP protects the Annapurna region. You need this permit to trek in the Annapurna Conservation Area. You need to fill out an application to get your permits for the Annapurna circuit trek. To get your ACAP, you must submit the application to the Nepal Tourism office in Kathmandu or the TAAN office in Pokhara.

TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System)
You need a TIMS permit to trek anywhere in Nepal. There are two versions: one for solo trekkers and another for groups. The solo trekker permit costs about NRs 2000 or USD 18. The group trekker permit, which requires a guide, costs about NRs 1000 or USD 9.

Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Nepalese Government has declared the Manaslu Region (between Jagat and Dharapani) a restricted area to manage tourism. Because of this, independent trekkers cannot go to Manaslu. Trekkers must get a special entry permit, called a restricted area permit. They also need the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit, Annapurna Conservation Area Permit, and TIMS Card. Since this area is restricted, a group must have at least two trekkers and a local guide. Additionally, you must process your permits through a registered agency. Freelance guides cannot issue the necessary permits for the Manaslu Circuit.
MRAP (Manaslu Restricted Area Permit)
To trek Manaslu, you need a special restricted area permit from Jagat until you cross Sama Gaun. After you pass Sama, you will need another entry permit called ACAP. The cost of the Manaslu RAP depends on how many days you spend between Jagat and Dharapani. The last checkpoint for the RAP is in Sama Gaun.

To trek the Manaslu Conservation Area, you need a permit that you can get from Philim, the starting point of the area. The permit costs USD 30 per person, and this price does not change regardless of how many days you stay in the area. You also need to provide a printed photograph to obtain the permit.

To trek through Manaslu, you need a permit from Dharapani until you exit the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP) in Beshi Sahar. Like the MCAP permit, you also need to provide a printed photograph for the ACAP permit.

Trek Difficulty
Annapurna Circuit Trek
The Annapurna Circuit Trek involves daily hikes of 5 to 8 hours, with elevation gains of 160 to 230 meters. The trek’s difficulty is heightened by challenging climbs and the risk of altitude sickness, especially above 3,000 meters, with Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters being particularly tough. Limited villages and emergency services—Manang being the main spot for immediate treatment—can make accommodations difficult, as supplies are often expensive.
It’s essential to maintain acclimatization days and rest to avoid AMS. The trek is physically demanding and can lead to mental strain. The best times to undertake the trek are in spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November), as monsoon and winter months bring heavy rainfall, snow, and poor visibility. Researching seasonal changes is crucial.
Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a remote trek with fewer villages, teahouses, and emergency services than the Annapurna Circuit Trek. You will walk for 6 to 8 hours each day on rugged trails. The high altitude can lead to Altitude Sickness (AMS), especially at Larkya La Pass, which is 5,106 meters high. Unpredictable weather makes climbing and descending more difficult, and the terrain is strenuous. As you go higher, food options become more limited. Since the Manaslu Circuit is restricted, you must obtain special permits and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP).
This requires planning and coordination with a trekking agency. The best times to trek in Manaslu are in Autumn (September to November) and Spring (March to May). Avoid trekking during the monsoon season (June to August) because of the risk of landslides and avalanches, as snow can block the pass. If you need help, it is hard to evacuate quickly since medical facilities are limited. The Manaslu Circuit Trek usually takes 14 to 18 days, so decent physical fitness is important.
Best Trekking Season for Annapurna Circuit and Manaslu Circuit
When planning treks like the Annapurna Circuit or the Manaslu Circuit in Nepal, timing is everything! Generally, the prime trekking seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). In autumn, you’ll find those crisp, clear skies that showcase the Himalayas in all their glory. The monsoon rains have cleared the air, so the views are breathtaking. However, remember that this is peak season, so expect more fellow trekkers on the trails.
Spring is considered the second most popular season to trek in Nepal, mainly due to warm weather and ideal temperature. Furthermore, the blooming flowers like rhododendrons and magnolias create a magical experience throughout the trek. While you might encounter some hazy conditions at lower altitudes, the overall atmosphere is wonderful. It’s a great option if you prefer slightly warmer temperatures and don’t mind sharing the trails with blooming nature. Manaslu Circuit
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is an incredible experience. Many people love it because it is stunningly beautiful and remote. You start by reaching Larkya La Pass, which is 5,106 meters high. The views from there are amazing, with sights of Manaslu, Cheo Himal, Himlung, and Annapurna II all around you. Then there’s Manaslu Base Camp, located at the foot of Mount Manaslu, which stands at an impressive 8,163 meters.
You will see glaciers and towering peaks that take your breath away. Along the way, you can explore traditional Tibetan villages like Samagaon and Samdo, where you can see authentic houses set against the spectacular Himalayan scenery. In Syangla village, you’ll enjoy a 360-degree view of the mountains. The Budi Gandaki River Gorge is also beautiful. Annapurna Circuit Trekking
The Annapurna Circuit is a classic Himalayan trek that encircles the Annapurna massif. The duration of this trek can vary significantly, typically ranging from 12 to 20 days, depending on the chosen route and pace. Factors influencing the length include whether trekkers take detours, how much time they spend acclimatizing, and if they utilize vehicle transport for certain sections. Due to road construction, many trekkers now alter their routes, which can shorten the overall time. Manaslu Circuit Trekking
The average trek duration for the Manaslu Circuit trek is between 12 and 14 days. However, this trek can be completed in an even shorter time but is not recommended, as trekkers won’t get enough time for acclimatization. This duration allows for adequate acclimatization as hikers ascend through varying altitudes, culminating in the challenging Larkya La Pass. A fantastic, joyous, adventure. My daughter and I spent 11 days with a porter and guide trekking from Kathmandu to Thorong La Pass 17,700 ft’. We had great food, superb companions, and incredible scenery. The memories are etched very deep and motivates us for more.
our 10-day ACT trekking journey
This late October, I went back to Nepal and once again experienced its wonderful people, things, and the magnificent snow-capped mountains.
Harka and Ramesh picked the three of us up at the hotel early in the morning, and we started our 10-day ACT trekking journey.
From Day 1 to Day 3, we followed the original itinerary, enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way, the kind and friendly Nepali people, and hikers from all over the world.
On Day 4, we were very excited at first to see the snowfall, but because the snow was too heavy, High Camp was closed, so many people could not continue and had to head back down.
The weather was really bad, with strong wind and heavy snow, and the snow on the ground was very deep, so Ramesh was very worried about our safety and was planning to arrange for us to retreat on Day 5, but we did not want to give up.
After many discussions with Ramesh and his team, they tried their best and offered several route options so that we could still try to continue up to High Camp.
On Day 5, we set off for Yak Kharka; it was still snowing heavily, and since most people had already gone down, the 5 of us could enjoy the stove in the tea house and a very quiet night all to ourselves.
On Day 6, we really had to retreat, because the snow still had not stopped, the snow on the ground was extremely thick, and the mountain remained closed, so everyone could only stop at 4,450 m.
Although we were not able to reach the final destination, Thorong Phedi (5,416 m), there were no regrets.
On the contrary, it was amazing to personally experience this heavy snowstorm, the biggest snowfall I have ever seen in my life.
Throughout the 10 days journey, we deeply felt how Ramesh, Markus, and Umesh did everything they could to take care of us and to make sure everyone could complete the trek safely.
So grateful that they were willing to accompany us moving forward in the strong storm and playing in the snow together.
In Nepal, within 10 days, it felt like going from summer to winter, and from lush green mountains to a world of pure white snow; it was truly magical, beautiful, and unforgettable.

Annapurna Circuit Tripping the book was super easy and explained every step of the way. The staff were always responsive and great at answering questions.

Second time with Harka and his team
For the second time we booked a trek with Himalaya Trip (after Langtang in 2024). This time we chose the Annapurna Circuit Trek, again with Ramesh dai as our guide. We also opted for a porter as we knew it was going to be a more difficult and long trek, so Sandeep bai joined us as well which was great. Both Ramesh and Sandeep were amazing, they helped us throughout the whole trek and kept us smiling. Also, despite the monsoon season, we have been blessed with clear views on some mornings. I have just completed ACT with my friends from Hong Kong. Jay is our guide and he is super experienced. Annapurna trek with Harka
In October 2007 we did the Annapurna trek with Harka, which was a fantastic experience. In 20 days Harka guided us from one magnificent place to the other. During the trek Harka provided us with a lot of information about the region and the people we met. Harka’s experience made it a challenging but safe and feasible trek, by keeping the pace to a level that suited our physical condition. In the evening we rested and played many card games with Harka surrounded by the worlds highest peaks, drinking tea and eating cookies. 12 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek from Kathmandu
We have just got back from an amazing 12 day Manaslu circuit trek organised incredibly quickly by Harka. He was super responsive and kept us updated at every point. Our guide, Mr Jayaram was amazing – he had incredible insight into the area, was always enthusiastic and checked in with us about our welfare regularly. Mr Jayaram was great at setting a good pace, ensuring we could take in the sights and save enough energy for the high pass. He also altered the itinerary to give us a slightly shorter day which had the benefit of a better view of Manaslu. Our porter, Shiva, was a great guy teaching us the ways of Nepalese rummy. To note; the public bus to Soti khola is little short on leg room but we had a sofa bus on the return which was comfortable. Absolute 10/10 experience all round, thank you!

Thanks to Himalaya Trip going to Nepal feels like going home. I completed the Manaslu Circuit trek two weeks ago, just after the protests in the Kathmandu valley. That has been my second trek in Himalayas with Himalaya Trip, and again it was an awesome experience: exploring extraordinary places, foods, culture and traditions. My guide, Ramesh took excellent care of me and made sure I would see off-the-beaten-track places, forgotten villages and that I would try local specialities tourists normally do not have chance of trying. Everything was well thought of and organized and I felt completely satisfied and safe. It is the best time to go trekking now, as the skies are clear, weather is favourable and the life has come back to normal in the Kathmandu valley after the demonstrations. Myself and three other guys who usually trek independently got together and used Harka’s company to organise aspects of our trek in Tsum valley. He responded to email enquiries promptly and did everything that was asked of him. Excellent trekking company and guide Jayandra
We recently completed a 4 week trek in Manaslu and Tsum Valley with Himalaya Trip and Jayandra Gurung as our guide. Jayandra was very responsive to our email queries and got back to us quickly. On the trek, Jayandra was very conscientious about doing a good job and keeping us safe. He was patient and flexible with our suggestions. We specified wanted a guide who was flexible and responsive to our ideas and suggestions and Jayandra was excellent. Decisions were made together. He is easy going and very pleasent to be around. Jayandra went above and beyond by carrying fresh fruit for our dessert each night. What a treat! We were also able to visit Jay’s home in Kathmandu and his village while on the trek to meet his family. We really appreciated this opportunity. I decided to go with Himalaya Trip because the price was great, the communication was excellent, and equally important, the fixed prices quoted for things like a private jeep were exactly what the cost should be — this agency was not trying to hike up prices and make money off me like so many other agencies tried to do. I felt like I can trust these guys.
Our guide Jay, and porter Deep, were two really great guys. We shared a lot of laughs with them and they were near the top of the list of why this excursion was so great.
Jay was always looking out for us, making sure we’re ok, and safety was always his top priority. Our agency recommended crampons for the pass, and they came in handy. Most others that we passed on the trail did not have them.
If you’re looking to book a trekking trip or any other tour in Nepal, you will not go wrong with this company. Just email them and you will see … the communication alone will put you at ease.
FYI – many people like to “shop around” in Kathmandu for agencies because they will find a better price. We met some people who did that, and the price we paid with this agency was significantly lower than they ended up paying.

Magnificent Manaslu
The trip of a lifetime on one of the best treks in Nepal, professionally organized by Harka and his team at Himalaya Trip and especially my expert guide Shyam.

We just finished the Manaslu Circuit
We just finished the Manaslu Circuit. We booked with Harka and his team and it was perfect. The organization was very efficient: Harka is very responsive, and he answered all our (many!!) questions in no time.
Our guide Jayandra was the best. He is a wonderful guide, never trying to hurry, always being flexible and calm. We wanted the itinerary not to be too strict, as we like to take our time and walk as far as we get, not as far as the itinerary tell us. He helped us a lot, always showing us to the nicest locations in the villages and some great spots for our breaks. He always knew if there would be another good overnight option a little further down or if it was better to stay and most importand: He obviously always knew where to get the best Dal Bhat 😉 No request was ever too much trouble. We had a great trek!

Manaslu Circuit Trek was a Wonderful experience
The whole Manaslu Circuit trek was a Wonderful experience! We enjoyed it thoroughly. Our guide Om an our porter Ram were just pefect in assisting, organizing and telling us everything we wanted to know. The weather at the beginning of October was also perfect. Manaslu trekking with Surpa (Guide-porter) and Min (porter)
We had a fantastic time doing the Manaslu trekking with Surpa and Min. Surpa was really knowledgable and always tried to find the best places to stay for us. His help and support were necessary to bring us up to the top of Larkya La pass while one of us had altitude sickness. Min, our porter, was also fantastic. Always happy and ready to play card games when done with the day. Not only it was a physical experience but also a human one. Thank you Himalaya Trip for that time. Highly recommend!

Manaslu Circuit Trek with Himalaya Trip
We did the Manaslu Circuit Trek with Himalaya Trip and it was quite awesome. We had quite some luck because monsoon season was bit longer as usual. But it almost did not rain.
Big thanks to Jay our guide and Mesak our porter. They did a great job and were really flexible, so we could have influence in the program. Also open to all the question we had about Nepal and especially the valleys we were in.
