The best way to get Lukla from Kathmandu for Everest Base Camp Trek and other treks in Everest region. Mount Everest 8848.86m is the highest mountain in the world. Many trekkers want to see and reach Everest Base Camp 5364m and summit on the top mount Everest. Most of the Everest trekking will start from Lukla. Right now, there is only flight option to reach Lukla from Kathmandu. There is no road access in Lukla. If you have more time, you can drive to Phaplu or Jiri and trek from there. But most of the people do not enough to do this day. They want to fly to Lukla and trek from there. This information will be very helpful if you are booking Everest region trek upcoming Autumn (October, November) 2024 and Spring (April, May) 2024.

Kathmandu – Manthali/ Ramechhap – Lukla

Kathmandu Airport have only one run way. All the domestic flights and international flight take-off and landing the same run way. We are suffering air traffic for Lukla flight. As the Lukla flight needs to fly in the morning because of the weather issue. In recent day, all the Lukla flight operate from Ramechhap in the peak trekking season.

How to get from Kathmandu – Manthali /Ramechhap?

Kathmandu – Manthali /Ramechhap is around 130km and 4-5 hours’ drive away from Kathmandu. You need to go one day early to stay in Manthali by car and next morning flight to Lukla from there or leave 2am in the morning from Kathmandu by car or sharing Jeep or Van or Bus and take a flight from Manthali to Lukla. These options are available on October / November and April / May.

Manthali / Ramechhap – Lukla flight

Manthali / Ramechhap to Lukla flight is very short. You will reach from Manthali to Lukla in 20 minutes flight.

Accommodation and restaurant in Manthali / Ramechhap

Basic accommodation, foods are Nepali style are available in Manthali / Ramechhap. If you want to stay in Tourist standard Resort, Mulkot has a Taj River side Resort. This resort is located 30km away from Manthali airport.

Returning from Lukla to Kathmandu

When you return from Lukla to Kathmandu, you will fly from Lukla to Manthali / Ramechhap and drive back to Kathmandu by private car or sharing Jeep, Van, Bus. It takes 20 minutes flight and 4-5 hours’ drive.

What is the option to avoid to drive Manthali / Ramechhap from Kathmandu?

Book your trek in September, December, March

If you want to trek in Everest but do not want to drive Manthali / Ramechhep. You may book trek in September, December, March. There will be direct flight from Kathmandu – Lukla – Kathmandu. The weather is not good as October, November, April and May. But it is still good time to do this trek. It is comparatively less crowded and accommodation are easily available.

Helicopter Chopper from Kathmandu – Lukla option

If you do not feel comfortable to drive from Kathmandu – Manthali / Ramechhap and take a flight from there, the Helicopter Chopper option is available from Kathmandu to Lukla directly. If you take this option, it cost you extra US$500 per person sharing basis.

Start a the from Jiri or Phaplu

If you have time, you can start the trek from Jiri or Phaplu. But it takes little bit more time. Lower route trek is still beautiful and less tourist.

Kathmandu – Lukla Helicopter Chopper and fly back

Many trekkers are choosing this this option. They take a Helicopter Chopper from Kathmandu – Lukla and returning Kathmandu, they fly from Lukla – Manthali / Ramechhap and drive back to Kathmandu.
