Was referred to Harka by a friend who had done the 12 Days EBC Trek a few months before, and he was very easy to contact and quick to respond. We were a bit uneasy about booking with someone from the other side of the world, but Harka proved himself to be honest, professional, and reputable while organising our trip for us. Once we were in Kathmandu, he was easy to meet up with and was quick to help us out with anything we needed. Our guide, Mr. Dil, who met us in Lukla, was what really made our trip as amazing as it was. He was extremely knowledgable on the mountains and mountain passes, as well as getting us into tea houses and our flight home. He was very professional, friendly, and easy to work with, even though his English was a bit broken. Overall, it was an incredible trip, and I wouldn’t hesitate to book with Harka again. If you do the EBC, ask for Dil, he’s the man.

I booked a private trek to Everest Base Camp so it was just myself and my guide / porter trekking together for 12 days. As a solo traveller I always invest a lot of time in to researching the company I book with, it was important to me to do this with a Nepalese tour company and the previous reviews were so encouraging and positive I decided to contact Himalaya Trip to see what they had to offer.
Harka responded almost immediately despite the time difference and sent me detailed information on the Everest Base Camp trek. He answered all my questions and always replied quickly which continued to give me confidence. They were also very competitively priced compared to other local companies and along with the great reviews I had a good feeling that Harka and his team would be the ones to get me to EBC.
Harka met me at the airport, took me to my hotel and helped get me any last minute bits I needed for the trek in Kathmandu. He made everything very easy and I felt safe and reassured the whole time which is important to me as a solo female traveller.
My guide / porter was called Dil and he was the man I was spending 12 days with trekking to EBC. Dil was fantastic, he looked out for me every step of the way, regularly checking in to ensure I was ok and did everything to make my experience on the trek as comfortable and as safe as possible. Dil was so knowledgable about the area and the mountains he would point out everything along the way. Despite him speaking broken English we could quite easily chat and communicate without any problems.
The trek was an incredible experience and one of the toughest yet most amazing things I’ve ever done and part of that was down to the efficiency and professionalism of Harka and his team. I didn’t have to worry or think about a thing, just getting to EBC.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek is also no less than Everest Base Camp Trek. It also treats trekkers with stunning views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, III, IV, Gangapurna, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Nilgiri, Machhapuchhre, Himchuli, Annapurna South, etc.
Extended Side Trips
During both base camp treks, extended side trips are possible. It is a traveler’s preference to do side trips but we assure that travelers won’t regret it. The side trips add more excitement and adventure to the trek. During their Everest Trek, travelers can extend side trips to Gokyo Lake or Everest Three Passes Trek. For the Annapurna Base Camp trek, Poon Hill Trek and Mardi Himal Trek are ideal destinations. Travelers have full flexibility to customize the trek according to their preferences.
Accommodation and foods
Everest Base Camp trek has basic to luxury accommodation facilities. But Annapurna Base Camp Trek has only basic accommodation and limited rooms with many beds. Both treks have facilities like Wi-Fi, hot water, and shower an additional payment is required.
Likewise, there is a variety of meal options for travelers during these treks. These treks are more developed and food options have a wide variety including local Nepali food to continental dishes. At Namche in the Everest region, travelers can enjoy delicious bakery goods, coffee, and drinks at Irish pubs. Pizza, Pancakes, Pasta, etc. are available at both treks but at limited teahouses.
Duration of trek
The standard trek duration for the Everest Base Camp trek is 12 days while the Annapurna Base Camp trek is 7 days respectively with our proposed standard itinerary appropriate for the trekkers.
Trek Distance in Km
The Everest Base Camp trek that starts and ends in Lukla has a total trek duration of 128 km. Annapurna Base Camp trek starts from Syauli Bazaar and ends in Nayapul covering a total trek distance of 60 km.
Difficulty
Everest and Annapurna Base Camp Treks have some challenges and travelers find it difficult to trek. There is no doubt that trekking to these base camps is difficult but with proper plans and preparation, trekking is achievable. Everest Base Camp is a difficult graded trek while Annapurna Base Camp is a moderately difficult trek. Altitude gain, steep rough trails, numerous ups and downs, daily long walk hours, basic accommodation, limited facilities, and altitude sickness are some challenging factors during these base camp treks. We recommend getting into a fitness regimen at least a month before your trek for a successful completion of the trek.
Price of the trek
The Annapurna Base Camp trek costs USD 399 – USD 449 per person for a standard 7-day while the Everest Base Camp trek costs USD 1099 – USD 1199 per person for a standard 12-day trek. If done in a group with a large group of trekkers, the trek costs are less.

I am more than happy to recommend Harka – he was very helpful and organised a good and professional trek (I did the Annapurna Base Camp trek with two friends). Our guide Shyam spoke good English and our two porters were a huge asset, carrying stuff we couldn’t have done ourselves. All for a very reasonable price.

A wonderful 8 day trek, led by our amazing guide Nirmal and porter Anil. We booked a 7 day Annapurna Base Camp trek with Himalaya Trip in Sep. Communication when booking was excellent and they were very accommodating to fit in with our dates and pick up/drop off locations. The manager, Harka, was very quick to respond and provided good information about what to take. On arrival, Harka met us at our hotel in Kathmandu and explained the full plan for the trip giving us all our tickets and trekking passes. He also met us in the morning to ensure we got on the correct bus to Pokhara where we would meet our guide.
The guide and porter were very good: both were very friendly and couldn’t do enough to make sure we were comfortable and safe at all times. We were particularly impressed when we asked to change the plan for the last day of the trek and he gave us a few options and rebooked our accommodation and transport plan to fit. Even though the porter spoke little English he was friendly and helpful throughout.
Himalaya Trip clearly a local, family-run business and I would highly recommend booking directly with them as it was better value for money than going through an agent in the UK and also supports their local community. We will certainly use them again for future trekking adventures in Nepal.

Our little group of three were introduced to Himalaya Trip and its Founder, Harka Gurung, from another Malaysian who had trekked in Nepal in 2018.
For our trek to ABC, I found Harka and his guide, Om and his two porters, Buddhi Man and Samsher, all Gurungs from their home state, to be exceptionally professional, courteous, friendly and accommodating at all times.
We quickly warmed to the Gurungs’ easygoing nature and friendly, no-nonsense dispositions, made all the more memorable by Samsher and Buddhi Man’s mountain songs and spontaneous dancing whilst on the trail!
I cannot therefore recommend Harka, Om, Samsher and Buddhi Man more highly for your next trip to this beautiful land as Nepal Hidden Treks will definitely be my first port of call when I next visit, hopefully with my children.
The defining feature of Harka and his men are that this is a family business for the Gurung tribe which places employment, professional standards and career opportunities on equal if not higher measure than commercial profit, which ultimately benefits the lucky client.
