Top 6 Attractions of ABC Trek
Ghandruk
Ghandruk is a traditional Gurung village at an elevation of 1,939 m surrounded by the Annapurna Mountain Ranges. This Gurung settlement village is densely populated and rich in its culture, and hospitality. During the ABC trek, trekkers can witness the traditional stone houses decorated with Buddhist prayer flags. Furthermore, Ghandruk often marks an initial or concluding point in the ABC trek, providing a crucial acclimatization stop. The village’s relatively lower altitude compared to the higher reaches of the trek allows trekkers to adjust to the elevation, reducing the risk of altitude sickness. Beyond its scenic and cultural value, Ghandruk provides essential amenities for trekkers, including teahouses and lodges, making it a comfortable and welcoming place to rest and refuel. Therefore, Ghandruk is much more than a stop along the way, it is a very important part of the whole Annapurna Base Camp Trek experience.
Poon Hill
Poon Hill is the famous vantage point for sunrise views over the towering snow-capped Machhapuchhre, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri ranges. At an elevation of 3,210 m, this viewpoint offers awesome views of Pokhara Valley, 360 degree panoramic views of the mountain ranges, and stunning views of sunrise, and sunset which is the major highlights of Poon Hill Trek. Another reason why Poon Hill is major attraction through Annapurna route, is it provides a place for acclimatization, which is extremely important especially for beginner level trekkers. The trek takes you through beautiful landscapes, including rhododendron forests and traditional Gurung villages. This mix of stunning nature and cultural experiences makes Poon Hill a popular stop for people hiking to Annapurna Base Camp.
Chhomrong village is the gateway for the ABC trek. This village offers striking views of Annapurna and Machhapuchhre. It is a popular overnight stop and a huge Gurung settlement manages the teahouses for accommodation. The village is also a traditional village lived by Gurung people from long time, so trekkers can meet them, and experience their day to day lifestyle. The majestic views of Himalayas from Chhomrong village, and peaceful enviroment, makes it one of the mus-see villages along the ABC trek route.
Jhinu (Hot Spring)
Jhinu is an important stop for trekkers on the Annapurna Base Camp route. It is a popular place to rest, where trekkers can relax and enjoy the natural hot springs after days of walking. These hot springs are believed to help with muscle soreness, making them a great way to unwind in nature. From Jhinu Danda, trekkers can also see several mountains, including Annapurna South (7,219 m), Macchapuchare (6,993 m), Annapurna II (7,937 m), and Dhaulagiri (8,167 m).
Machhapuchhre Base Camp
Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC) lies beneath the iconic Machhapuchhre peak at 3,700 meters. The villages nestled below the MBC are attractive and the MBC trail leads to the renowned Annapurna Base Camp. The Machhapuchhre Trekking trail goes through seven important villages: Lachok, Ghachok, Machhapuchhre, Ribhan, Lwang Ghalel, Sardikhola, and Dhital. Trekkers can choose between full board camping or staying in a homestay, depending on their interest and time available. This base camp is the final stop before reaching the Annapurna Base Camp and provides an outstanding view of the northern face view of the majestic mountains. Furthermore, it is also place for acclimatization, as trekkers must get used to the surroundings, and level of oxygen if they want to not suffer from altitude sickness.

Why Annapurna Base Camp Trek in Spring (March, April, May)?
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of Nepal’s most beautiful trekking adventures, and experiencing it during Spring makes it even more beautiful. Trekking at Annapurna Base Camp in Spring has several benefits, so let’s get into them.
Optimal Weather Conditions:
Spring (March to May) brings stable weather with moderate temperatures, making trekking comfortable. Days are generally warm and sunny, while nights remain cool. Many trekkers prefer these trekking conditions to extreme freezing temperatures and dynamic weather during other seasons.
Spectacular Floral Displays:
The spring season is when the Annapurna region’s flora comes to life. The trekkers can enjoy blooming flowers like rhododendrons and magnolias along the trails. Along with the majestic view of mountains, these colorful flowers create a stunning trekking atmosphere and add an extra layer of beauty to an already amazing Annapurna region.
Clear Mountain Views:
Spring typically offers clear skies, providing trekkers with unobstructed and breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. This clarity allows for exceptional photography opportunities and a truly immersive Himalayan experience. Spring begins after the end of the winter season, which is often considered least ideal for trekking due to haziness and unclear views. During Spring, the sun shines brightest from early morning, making the region crystal clear for taking photos of mountains.
Pleasant Temperatures:
The temperatures during the spring months are very comfortable for hiking, making the long days of trekking much more enjoyable. During the day, the temperature rises to 20 degrees, which is ideal for trekkers, and at night, it decreases to around 5 degrees. During early Spring, sometimes at night, the temperature reaches below freezing, so trekkers must make sure they are well packed with woolen clothes.
Annapurna Base Camp Trek Weather and Temperature During Spring
ABC trek might be one of the easy to moderate level treks, however it is important to understand the weather, and temperature in order to make your trek more fun, and less challenging. Let’s look at the weather in the Annapurna Base Camp region month by month during Spring.
March
In early March at ABC, temperatures range from an average maximum of 4°C (39.2°F) to an average minimum of -8°C (17.6°F), indicating that while the beginning of the month remains cold, particularly at higher altitudes where snow is still possible, it gradually melts. Clear skies are typical, offering breathtaking mountain views, though occasional clouds and fog can temporarily obscure the scenery.
April
April at ABC presents ideal trekking conditions, characterized by stable weather and minimal precipitation. Average temperatures range from a maximum of 8°C (46.4 °F) to a minimum of -4°C (24.8°F). This period is particularly favored due to the clear skies and excellent visibility, perfect for panoramic views and photography, and the vibrant display of rhododendron forests in full bloom, which dramatically enhances the landscape’s beauty.
May
In May at ABC, the average maximum temperature reaches 14°C (57.2°F), while the average minimum drops to 0°C (32°F). This month signifies the shift from spring to summer, characterized by generally pleasant weather, though with increasing humidity and occasional pre-monsoon showers. Visibility is typically clear in the mornings, but afternoons may see cloud cover and haze, which can slightly reduce visibility.
Annapurna Base Camp Trek Difficulty
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek offers a great mix of challenge and beauty. It is less extreme than the Everest Base Camp trek or the Manaslu Circuit but still more challenging than easier treks like the Poon Hill trek. No matter what type of trekker you are, ABC can excite and amaze you. There are certain factors that influence the difficulty of the trek. So let’s get into more details.
High Altitude
One of the main factors that increase the difficulty towards the ABC trek is high altitude. The trek to Annapurna Base Camp reaches about 4,130 meters (13,550 feet) at its highest point. Although this is not as high as some of the more challenging treks in the area, it still requires a significant climb. Some people may experience altitude sickness, so it’s important to acclimatize and go up gradually to avoid altitude-related problems.
Long Duration
The ABC trek is challenging because it lasts a long time, usually 5 to 11 days. The exact time depends on the route and your speed. While choosing the trek, it is important to be prepared physically and have decent physical stamina. The longer trek is generally advised as trekkers will be able to get acclimatized and rest otherwise the trekkers can be susceptible to altitude sickness. Every day trekkers have to trek for six to seven hours so it is recommended they don’t skip breakfast, and also take reasonable rest whenever they have time.
Rugged Terrains
When you explore the Annapurna region in Nepal, the ABC trail takes you through different landscapes with many twists and turns. This trek involves a lot of climbing up and down. While it is not as tough as some other mountain trails, you still need to prepare properly because it can be moderately challenging. The trail climbs gradually, but some parts have steep ascents and descents. You will encounter many steep stone stairs, especially in the lower altitudes around Ulleri, Chhomrong, and Tadapani. Climbing and descending these stairs can be hard on your knees at times.
Annapurna Base Camp Trekking Permits
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a well-known trek in Nepal. Before you start your trek, make sure to get the permits needed to enter the Annapurna Conservation Area. The trekkers must show these permits on the various checkpoints all throughout the Annapurna region. So, let’s take a look at some of the permits you need to be eligible for the ABC trek.
Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP)
You need a permit called ACAP to trek in the Annapurna Conservation Area. You can get this permit from the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) office in Kathmandu or Pokhara. This permit was issued to control the overflow of trekkers, control the natural resources, and preserve culture, and traditions.
Cost
For Foreigners: NRS. 3000 (Approx. USD 30)
For SAARC Nationals: NRS. 1000 (Approx. USD 10)
Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS)
TIMS, or Trekkers’ Information Management System, is a vital permit for trekking in Nepal. It enhances the safety of trekkers by keeping a record of their information, including names, nationalities, and planned routes. This helps local authorities monitor trekker numbers, manage tourism, and allocate resources effectively. The TIMS permit also ensures better access to emergency services during treks. Obtaining this permit demonstrates a commitment to responsible trekking and the protection of Nepal’s natural landscapes. You can also issue this card in Nepal Tourism Board or TAAN Office in Kathmandu.
Costs
For Foreigners: NRS. 2000 (Approx. USD 20)
For SAARC Nationals: NRS. 1000 (Approx. USD 10)

From day one the communication and support from Himalaya trip has been exceptional. We were initially planning the trip for October 2025, but had to move it to March 2026. The management team was super understanding about the situation and we seamlessly changed plans. Our guide for the trip was Ramesh, along with two porters who made the entire journey so much easier and carefree. Everything was organised and taken care of. March being a busy season, with lodges being overbooked, Ramesh especially made sure that we were always sorted and got the best of the options available. He was very clear throughout about what to expect during the journey and how to prepare. Also took us through the most beautiful routes. During unexpected situations, we consistently felt genuine care and a sense of security around us thanks to Ramesh and the porters. I would highly recommend Himalaya trip for anyone who is considering trekking in Nepal!

Our experience with Himalaya Trip was incredible. We were guided by Ramesh who is an absolute delight and 12/10 as a guide – a trip full of laughter, great stories, and thoughtful insights into Nepal and its culture. We went as a group of 4 to Annapurna Base Camp trek and it was unforgettable as a trip. We also hired porters who were also very kind, smiley and friendly – this genuine warmth and kindness from every member of Himalaya trip company really made our trip. Ramesh was expert level guidance in everything from food recommendations, to what to wear and expect the next day in the terrain. Everything was well organized and easy to follpw. He also really made us feel safe when my sister got sick from the altitude. We really felt we experienced Nepali hospitality where we were treated as guests, welcomed, and cared for. Communication was great throughout, reliable, and easy to follow. There was everything from time for photos, rest, trekking, and challenges in between. I definitely plan on returning and hopefully doing Everest base camp with Himalaya Trips and maybe even summiting!!! Thank you Ramesh and amazing team 🙏

We had a really nice trek to ABC. Unfortunately we faced rain and then snow (30 cm). Jay, our guide, was very professional ensuring our safety and getting us down the mountain in time, and obtaining extra blankets at our booked guest houses. You could tell he had the experience needed for such situations.
I also would like to share that Harka, the tour manager, was extremely helpful and flexible with changing our itinerary and transport method as needed due to weather conditions. As important, Harka was very honest in dealing with us.
We highly recommend both of them. Enzo and Flavio

I completed the solo Annapurna Base Camp trek with Poon Hill, starting from Pokhara. It was masterfully organised by Harka, who has been amazing from the very beginning. He arranged my entire itinerary — from Kathmandu to Pokhara and the trek itself — all on short notice. I was guided by Sandeep, who provided the utmost care and support throughout the trekking journey.
We stayed in tea houses run by lovely and friendly families who treated guests like royalty. I met fellow trekkers and shared experiences, tips, and hacks along the way. I even rode a horse, which was an incredible experience.
The trek itself was moderately challenging, with regular breaks. Despite the constant rain throughout the journey, the fact that I completed the trek was an accomplishment in itself. In short, if you are able to walk 15kms a day for 5-7 hours over 4-5 consecutive days in your home country, you can do this trek.
Thank you, Harka and Sandeep, for a wonderful experience.

We are very happy to have successfully completed the Nepal ABC Trek and sincerely thank the “Himalaya Trip Private Limited” Trekking team.
Special thanks to Harka for providing detailed information before departure, arranging airport pickup and drop-off, and thoroughly explaining the itinerary.
Ramesh took great care of us throughout the journey, ensuring our meals and accommodation were well-managed. When he noticed that we were struggling with our physical stamina, he suggested an alternative route. Although it was slightly longer, the path was easier to navigate. Since the porter couldn’t always stay with us, Ramesh also helped carry some of our belongings, making it possible for us to complete the trek. His arrangements were truly flexible and considerate.
Markus and Aita always had bright smiles on their faces. They helped with our luggage, checked our rooms to ensure nothing was left behind, chatted with us along the way, and took photos with us. They gave us a sense of genuine warmth and simplicity that is hard to find in the city.
Once again, a heartfelt thanks to Harka, Ramesh, Markus, and Aita ? ?
P.S. The Himalaya Trekking team celebrated uncle and aunt’s birthdays for two consecutive days, which was truly a wonderful surprise and deeply touching.
I sincerely hope to hike with your team again in the future ?

We arranged for a 13 pax group for the ABC trek with Harka. Even with a big group size, Harka and his team took good care of us. The itinerary was customized based on our needs and fitness level. Top-notch service was provided throughout our 10 days in Nepal. Our guide, Hari did an amazing job ensuring all of us were able to cope with the altitude and long trek well. During the trip, we requested some changes to the itinerary and they were able to accommodate our last-minute request. Would totally come back to them if we are planning for EBC and recommend it to those who wish to visit Nepal.

Haari, our tour guide, was great. He is very friendly, patient, accommodating with everyone and a mountain of knowledge about the Himalayas (very very enthusiastic about EBC, haha). He was well prepared with first aids and brought us to places to get gears and stuff that we missed out before our hike. He made plans ahead and keep us informed, totally made our ABC adventure so much more enjoyable and relaxed. The porters were super helpful and thoughtful, despite carrying our bags around the mountains they keep us entertained with their carefree personalities and great dancing skills 🙂 (yeah, they partied at one of the teahouse we stayed). OH did I mentioned, one of our member left his camera at the previous teahouse we stayed and only realised when we arrived at the next accommodation (after 12 hours) and one of the porter volunteered to return and pick up the camera for our member, and I’m sure he was sprinting and down 6 red bull and came back in 5hours. We were very lucky and blessed indeed. Haari’s brother, Harka is the operation/ owner of the tour agency and he was also very kind and did a fantastic job in ensuring our last few days in Kathmandu a pleasant one. We had good conversations with everyone of them and all in all a great experience and a wonderful times in this beautiful country.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon trekking to Annapurna Base Camp and Harka was our guide. We were so pleased to have Harka as he was the perfect guide for us. Naturally he has excellent knowledge and always gently guided us into the correct decision. We were quite worried about spending so much time with someone we didn’t know. But Harka had the magic ability to know when to leave us in peace and when to spend time with us. He was very gentlemanly, with perfect manners and as I said an innate ability to know what to do. He wasn’t too distant nor too friendly. We did see other guides who didn’t get this balance right and who if they had been with us would have affected our trip for the worse. Harka was just perfect for us and I would recommend him to anyone.

In the march of 2012, my girlfriend and I took a trip to the Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal. We have hired a guide Harka Gurung , a local guide (26), who was recommended by my friends.First, he has sent us the list of things to take with us, this information is very valuable for us, since we know what to take with us. The weather conditions were pretty rough, but we did not freeze and need anything. Harka is very fond of safety, starting from the recommendations about the food and water and ending with advice was and how to pass the Avalanche area, steep slopes, and so on. He was very nice to us and told us a lot of stories about Nepali habits, culture, and history; he was always joking and did not show any signs of angriness when we were going to slow or wanted to have rest.
Harka went all the way with us and without him our travel would not have been so nice and safe.I definitely will choose home as a guide for my next trips to Nepal and recommend him to anyone who wants to feel comfortable and nice during the trek.

WE would trek with him again forever, and more than that, we are still in touch because he did become one very good friend and we wish him all the best for his life. He deserves all the happiness he can get. Namaste saathi!

I am more than happy to recommend Harka – he was very helpful and organised a good and professional trek (I did the Annapurna Base Camp trek with two friends). Our guide Shyam spoke good English and our two porters were a huge asset, carrying stuff we couldn’t have done ourselves. All for a very reasonable price.

A wonderful 8 day trek, led by our amazing guide Nirmal and porter Anil. It was April, and this is a very busy month, so despite the company booking in advance, we struggled to find a room on several occasions – but the overall experience and mountain views surpassed all. Thank you, Nirmal and Anil, we’ll come again!!

We booked a 7 day Annapurna Base Camp trek with Himalaya Trip in Sep. Communication when booking was excellent and they were very accommodating to fit in with our dates and pick up/drop off locations. The manager, Harka, was very quick to respond and provided good information about what to take. On arrival, Harka met us at our hotel in Kathmandu and explained the full plan for the trip giving us all our tickets and trekking passes. He also met us in the morning to ensure we got on the correct bus to Pokhara where we would meet our guide.
The guide and porter were very good: both were very friendly and couldn’t do enough to make sure we were comfortable and safe at all times. We were particularly impressed when we asked to change the plan for the last day of the trek and he gave us a few options and rebooked our accommodation and transport plan to fit. Even though the porter spoke little English he was friendly and helpful throughout.
Himalaya Trip clearly a local, family-run business and I would highly recommend booking directly with them as it was better value for money than going through an agent in the UK and also supports their local community. We will certainly use them again for future trekking adventures in Nepal.

Our little group of three were introduced to Himalaya Trip and its Founder, Harka Gurung, from another Malaysian who had trekked in Nepal in 2018.
For our trek to ABC, I found Harka and his guide, Om and his two porters, Buddhi Man and Samsher, all Gurungs from their home state, to be exceptionally professional, courteous, friendly and accommodating at all times.
We quickly warmed to the Gurungs’ easygoing nature and friendly, no-nonsense dispositions, made all the more memorable by Samsher and Buddhi Man’s mountain songs and spontaneous dancing whilst on the trail!
I cannot therefore recommend Harka, Om, Samsher and Buddhi Man more highly for your next trip to this beautiful land as Nepal Hidden Treks will definitely be my first port of call when I next visit, hopefully with my children.
The defining feature of Harka and his men are that this is a family business for the Gurung tribe which places employment, professional standards and career opportunities on equal if not higher measure than commercial profit, which ultimately benefits the lucky client.

An amazing trek to ABC (Annapurna Base Camp). The views of Fishtail and Annapurna were extraordinary and the hiking through Ghandruk was beautiful. The guide (Milan) and the porter (Misak) were excellent and we had a great time chatting to them in English (and also in Nepalese!) They were very kind, offering us fruits after dinner and cushions to sit on when we took breaks. The trip was very well organised and all the hotels had been organised and booked in advance. We highly recommend taking this trek with Himalaya Trip.

Trekking through these scenic trails during pleasant weather and visiting charming villages provides a truly relaxing experience. It serves as a genuine escape from the typical demands of daily life. Individuals seeking to immerse themselves in remarkable natural beauty will find this opportunity highly rewarding. Participants may choose to walk or, alternatively, ride a donkey if they prefer. Regardless of the mode of transportation, they will witness the Annapurna region in its most exquisite form. I recommend selecting spring for your trekking journey, as it offers a remarkable experience. Each step taken is akin to a celebration of the breathtaking beauty that nature has to offer.
FAQs
What kind of temperatures can I expect during the spring trek?
Temperatures vary significantly with altitude. In lower regions, daytime temperatures can be quite warm, ranging from 15°C to 25°C. However, as you ascend, temperatures drop considerably, especially at night, where it can fall below freezing at Annapurna Base Camp. Therefore, layering clothing is essential.
Are there any risks of altitude sickness during the Spring trek?
Yes, altitude sickness is a risk at higher elevations. It’s crucial to ascend gradually, drink plenty of water, and listen to your body. If you experience headaches, nausea, or dizziness, immediately descend to a lower altitude.
How crowded are the trails during the spring season?
Spring is a popular trekking season, so expect to encounter other trekkers on the trails. While this can create a lively atmosphere, it also means that teahouses can get crowded, especially during peak times. Therefore, pre-booking accommodations is highly recommended.
Is hiring a guide and porter necessary for the ABC trek in Spring?
While it’s possible to trek independently, hiring a guide and porter is highly recommended, especially for first-time trekkers. Guides are knowledgeable about the region, can assist with navigation, and help with any issues that may arise. Porters can carry your heavy luggage, making the trek more enjoyable.
How long does the Annapurna Base Camp trek typically take in the Spring?
The trek usually takes 7 to 12 days, depending on your plan and pace. It’s important to include acclimatization days to help your body adjust to higher elevations.
