Jomsom Muktinath Poonhill Trek Overview
Jomsom Muktinath Poonhill trek is one of the popular trekking destinations in the Annapurna region. The major attractions of the Jomsom Muktinath trekking route are Kagbeni, Muktinath temple, Natural Hot spring Tatopani, the most popular viewpoint Poonhill, and Ghandruk Gurung village.
Jomsom Muktinath Poonhill Trekking starts after a 30-minute flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. It is also known as the pilgrim’s trek. The trek reaches the maximum altitude of 3,760 m (12,335 ft) and can be completed by anybody with a moderate level of fitness. This trek offers numerous spectacular views of the two Himalaya ranges, including the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Explore the hundreds-year-old monastery, caves, local tribes, culture, lifestyle, and scenic beauties of the different landscapes.
The trek takes you to the sacred Muktinath temple. There are 108 water taps and two small ponds. The Hindu people believe that if you take a bath in 108 taps (108 is a sacred number in Tibetan Buddhism), you will be free from the sins that you committed in your past life. The spouts are cast in the shape of cows’ heads, which pour forth holy water. A short walk past a collection of chortens is the Dhola mebar Gompa, or Jwalamai (goddess of fire) temple, where a sacred flame of natural gas burns behind a grill just above the spring.
The 8 Days Trekking also includes crossing the world’s deepest gorge of the Kali Gandaki River between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. It gets refreshing in Tatopani, where you will have the opportunity to relax in a natural hot spring. The views from the first rays of the sun at the break of dawn, the grace of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayas from Ghorepani Poon Hill (3,210m), are otherworldly. The hike continues through dense rhododendron forest, with a towering view of snowcapped mountains in the background, to Tadapani and Ghandruk. We will end the trek with a drive back to Pokhara. There is also an alternative trekking route that has been built from Ghasa to Tatopani.
The Jomsom Muktinath Poonhill Trek is a complete package that combines a moderately challenging trail with glorious mountain views, cultural experiences, and religious insights. Moreover, the short trek duration and low altitude are perfect for trekkers of all ages and levels. Join our 8 Days Jomsom Muktinath Poonhill Trek and dive into the adventure yourself.
